BIST® Technology

What's BIST® Technology?

The BIST® technology is a PSS proprietary analytical technology that was developed for automated operation of simultaneous multi-item measurement.

The BIST® technology, which is an abbreviation of Beads-array-In-Single-Tip technology, is a signal detection technology of measuring multi-items up to 20 items simultaneously. A device, called BIST®, containing beads aligned and sealed in the dropper-shaped capillary region, and those beads have a diameter of 1 mm and carry an immobilized antibody, antigen or DNA fragment that binds to targeted substance for detection.

Because the BIST® can fit to the nozzle of the Magtration® system, it is possible to perform hybridization or antigen-antibody reaction and washing operation by using an automated apparatus identical with that for nucleic acid extraction. The signal generated after reaction is detected with an original scanner (BIST®nner).

The dedicated automated apparatus "LuBEA®" permits full automatic simultaneous multi-item analysis continuously from reaction to detection analysis.

BIST®, an abbreviation of Beads array In Single Tip, is one of All-Process-in-Tip Technologies developed by PSS for the purpose of automation, and it is a next-generation analytical tool enabling full automatic multi-item analysis.

While traditionally each sample should be analyzed separately, it allows simultaneously measurement and analysis of up to 20 items, reducing the analysis period and the cost drastically, in combination with the automated system LuBEA®. An antibody, antigen or DNA fragment is immobilized on the surface of beads with a diameter of 1 mm according to the application. The immobilized beads are then filled in a capillary in order. The device is called BIST®.

The beads include detection beads and light-blocking beads, and they are filled in the capillary in order. Addition of the light-blocking beads enables removal of the influence between beads, allowing accurate measurement and high-precision analysis of the beads in reaction. The location and the number of the beads are arbitrary, and thus, a device suitable for a particular purpose can be prepared.

A device permitting automatic reaction of the BIST® and detection is a new ultracompact apparatus LuBEA®. Because the reaction, measurement and analysis steps of BIST® are carried out completely automatically by the LuBEA®, there is no need for special skill. Anyone can operate it easily. It is also significantly advantageous that it allows qualitative measurement as well as quantitative measurement by its signal intensity.
